“COSTLESS CREDIT”
HON. R SEMPLE’S ATTITUDE. The Government was not going to be stampeded into any wild-cat costless credit schemes, said the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, in reply to a deputation which waited upon him at. Morrinsville yesterday and urged that dairy farmers should be paid a compensatory price for their output. Money represented value. Mr Semple continued, and unless the value was there money was worthless. Everyone was entitled to a reasonable compensation for his services. The guaranteed price would be reviewed at. the end of the season in the light of the current season's experience, and it a greater measure of relief was warranted it. would be given. The Minister urged farmers to get together and agree as to what was a fair price, and to make representations to the Government. Amendments to the Mortgagors’ and Lessees' Rehabilitation Act. were under consideration, he said, and would be placed before Parliament next session. A committee had submitted a favourable report on the question of providing houses for farm workers, and a decision would be given shortly. The question ot farmers’ trans port, licenses was being considered, and the whole system of road taxation was being reviewed.
