FARMERS’ UNION

THE TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held yesterday, with Mr A. T. Bryant (president) in the chair, and also present were Messrs W. G. Neill, C. North, H. Clarke, G. T. Crawley, G. R. Lawry, D. H. Cavers, E. Krippner, R. M. Harvey, W. P. Krippner, A. W. Signal, W. J. Hodgson. Apologies were received from Messrs A. S. Wyllie and J. R. Cullen. GENERAL MATTERS. Mr Cavers reported on the recommendations of the special sub-commit-tee appointed to consider ways and means of speeding up the executive meeting. The meeting approved ol the suggestions brought forward by tho sub-committee. The president reported on the last meeting of the Waikato sub-provincial executive meeting. SOLDIER SETTLERS. There was some discussion in the case of Mr Caley Alexander leaving his farm, and the apparent injustice inflicted upon him. Mr Lawry and Mr Clarke considered that officers and rangers of the Crown Lands Department were very reasonable in their treatment of Crown land tenants. Mr Crawley opposed the principle of putting oil Crown tenants and letting others take the property at a very reduced price. It was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the Waikato sub provincial delegates.

TE AWAMUTU SALEYARDS. The subject of improvements to the cattle entrance at the local saleyards was discussed, and Messrs Bryant, North and Lawry were appointed a sub-committee to wait on the Borough Council to make suggestions to overcome the congestion at the cattle entrance of the saleyards. FARMERS' RALLY. There was some suggestion on the holding of a Farmers’ Union week campaign, and a small committee was appointed to make suggestions Mr Cavers reported on a meeting of the Farm Managers’ Scheme Commit tee, and proposed that membership for the next year be IDs per member, that sickness benefit at half rates be reduced to one week per year to each member, and last year’s members who paid £1 subscription be carried on for another year.—This was agreed to. The circular relating to the scheme will be revised and copies made available for distribution. OTHER MATTERS. One member brought up the subject of securing a competent veterinary curgeon under the jurisdiction of this branch, but on reports from a few years ago, there was little support offering. There was also a suggestion that an analysis be made of agricultural lime. Die matter was referred to the Waikato sub-provincial executive.
