AN APPRECIATION.

“A MESSAGE OF NATIONAL THANKS.” At an early date the Te Awamutu branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association will hold a social function, at which an address of appreciation on the Coming of Age of the Returned Soldiers’ Association will be presented to His Worship the Mayor (Mr George Spinley) and the chairman of the Waipa County Council. (Mr S. C. B. Macky). The address, which has been drawn up by the Dominion Executive, will be presented to all Mayors and County Chairmen throughout New Zealand, and is as follows: The New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, which was formed in April, 1916, for the purpose of guarding the interests of returned soldiers and perpetuating the spirit of comradeship and mutual assistance born of the war years, will this year celebrate the twenty-first Anniversary of its foundation. Our Association considers that this Anniversary is an appropriate occasion to indicate how deeply conscious its members are of all that has been done for the ex-soldiers of the Dominion and their dependants, commencing with the supply of comforts to the men and nurses while overseas and the provision of large sums of money for the relief of those who suffered as a result of their war service, continuing through all the years, right down to the present time. This simple memorial is intended, therefore, on our part, to be expressive of a message of national thanks and appreciation to all those who have in any way, be it great or small, contributed to the support and assistance of the Association andjts branches and of the returned soliders generally throughout the Dominion. In particular, it is the desire of the Association and its members that this should convey to the various institutions and to the citizens of your particular community a special message and provide a permanent record that we are not unmindful of the wonderful support that has been accorded to the Branch of the Association operating in your locality and the generous assistance that has always been forthcoming for any effort that has been promoted by our members. Our Association boasts a great record of achievement on behalf of the returned soldiers, but we gratefully recognise that such achievement would have been impossible but for the sympathy and support that have been extended to us by all classes and for the confidence that has been reposed in our organisation, nationally and locally. For all this, and to all, we repeat our deep and sincere thanks and appreciation, and as we have in the past endeavoured to merit what has been bestowed upon our Association and upon our fellows, so, too, we hope to enjoy the continued confidence of the citizens of every part of the Dominion. On behalf of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association (Inc.) W. PERRY, Dominion President. S'. J. HARRISON, General Secretary.
