DEHORNED CATTLE
LEGISLATION SOUGHT. Holding that the dehorning of cattle is an act of cruelty, the Waikato Society fcr the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is seeking to have, legislation introduced which will do away with the practice. Tlie society recently wrote to the Farmers Union (Auckland province), asking for support in getting legislation passed to provide that all dairy cattle born after the coming into operation of such legislation be treated witli an application of caustic sod? or caustic potash within a fortnight after birth in such manner as effectually to prevent the growth of horns. The matter lias been given consideration by the executive of the Farmers’ Union, which has decided that it is a question to be considered at the full conference of the union to be held next month.
