MODEL SPEECH
A chairman’s introductory speech which has been hailed in London as an admirable, model was delivered recently by Lord Horder at a dinner given by the Eugenics Society. Mr J. M. Keynes, the economist, delivered the Salton Memorial Lecture, and the chairman introduced him thus:— “Ladies and gentlemen, you are all familiar with the chairman who says he is not going to. make a speech and proceeds to make one, and the chairman who says there can be no need to introduce the speaker and proceeds to introduce him. I shall be as good as my word to-night—Mr Keynes.”
Two wild geese, when about to start southwards for the winter, were entreated by a frog to take him with them. One of the geese agreeing to do so if a means to convey him, could lie devised, the frog produced a stalk cf strong grass, got the two. geese to take it one at each end while he Bung to it in the middle by ,his piouth. In this manner the three were making the journey, when they were noticed by some men, who loudly expressed their admiration of the plan and after giving vent to their wonder, pointedly asked who had been clever enough to discover it. The ifrog fairful lest others should claim the merit, opened his mouth to say “IT WAS I,” and so lost his hold, fell to the-earth, and was dashed to pieces.—‘Anon.
