TE AW!AM ( UTU POWER BOARD. INSPECTOR’S AND ENGINEER’S REPORTS. The following reports by the inspector, Mr A. J. Tailby, and engineer, Mr E. Bryant, were presented, and adopted, at Friday’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Power Board:— INSPECTOR’S REPORT. During the period since last meeting the following installations and extensions have been tested and inspected:— Lighting plants 15, cowplant motors 13, separator motors 14, other power plants 2, waterpump motors 6, washing machines 3, shearing plants 1, electric stoves 6, electric waterheaters 36, total for month 96. With the above new connections, and after allowing for disconnections, temporary or otherwise, the figures at this date are as follows: Lighting plants 2004, cowplant motors 685, separator motors 293, other power plants 78, waterpump motors 447, washing machines 25, shearing plants 43, electric stoves 285, electric waterheaters 678, grand total 4,538. Also tested and inspected extensions on 41 lighting plants, representing an increase of 49 lighting points and 21 heating points, also 4 waterheaters, 1 other power plant and 2 cowplants. Total number of extensions to date 2,358. Also tested and inspected alterations on 6 lighting plants, 14 cowplants, 4 waterpumps, 1 waterheater and 1 other power plant. Meters: Installed 58, tested 50, changed 2, disconnected 5, reconnected 0, repaired 1, removed 0. Enquiries: Attended to 21 inquiries. Re-inspected 9 cowplants, 5 lighting plants, 3 waterpumps, 7 waterheaters, 7 separator motors, 1 electric stove and 1 other power plant. Made up specifications for 5 cowplant motors, 4 lighting plants, 1 electric stove, 2 separator motors and 4 waterheaters. Inspected 6 all-electric radio sets. Total number of radio sets inspected 456. Fire Underwriters’ returns were made up for month of September, 1936. This month’s progress represents a record in the history of the Board. Two cars were used for inspection purposes most of the month. ENGINEER’S REPORT. Poles: Forty silver pine and 159 iron bark poles were received and these were unloaded from railway trucks and stacked at the various pole dumps. Eighty-seven poles were carted and erected of which seven were used on maintenance and eighty were for construction. Lines: Extensions to lines to supply new consumers were erected at Pukeatua, Kio Wio East, Parawera and Te Rore. Six. hundred and forty-six chains of 7/16 were erected and 48 chains of No. 12 were dismantled. The Te Rore 3 K.V. line was patrolled during the month owing to the oil circuit breaker tripping on several occasions, but no fault was found on the lines. It is suspected cattle are rubbing on some of the Doles. Sub-stations: The Tokanui sub-sta-tion was cleaned out to prevent fire hazard. Transformers: One transformer' was overhauled and is now being dried out. Additional 3 K.V. transformers were erected at Te Rore and Kio Kio East to supply new consumers. Power supply: The peak load to date for present quarter is 1438 K.V.A. at .894 P.F. You will notice the drop in power factor. This drop is caused by the increase in inductive load connected and it will be necessary for youi - Board to consider purchasing more condensers. Street lighting: One lamp was replaced at Pirongia and one at Ohaupo. The temporary lighting for Highways Board on Main South Road past Kinikihi was dismantled. Community lighting: One additional community light and two hoarding lights were erected, one light was dismantled, three disconnected and two were reconnected. Thirty eight lamps were replaced on the various circuits. Service lines: Twenty-five service lines were erected and a number- were repaired or altered. Eight services were disconnected and four reconnected. Trees adjacent to lines: Trees were trimmed at Kio Kio East and Puahue. Transport: The vehicles travelled 5715 miles during the month. General: Metering equipment was tested and erected at Waikeria. The usual fault work has been carried out.
