WEDDING BELLS
COOMBES—NOONAN. A pretty and popular wedding took place at St. Patrick’s Church, Te Awamutu, on Saturday afternoon last, where there was a large congregation of relatives and friends to greet the happy couple after the ceremony. The principals were Miss Daphne Kathleen Noonan, second nan, of Teasdale Street, Te Awamutu, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. S. Nooand Mr Hector William Coombes, one of the seven sons of Mr and Mrs Robert Coombes, of Auckland, and formerly of Hamilton. Rev. Father O’Flynn officiated. The bride was daintily arrayed in a clinging gown of magnolia slipper satin, with long flowing train infet with chevron pleating, with softly draped veil of Brussels lace, and she carried a sheaf of lilies of the valley and maidenhair fern. In attendance as bridesmaids wero Misses Zoe Noonan (sister of the bride) and Joyce Coombes (sister of the bridegroom). Miss Noonan’s frock was of azure blue lace, while Miss Coombes wore blush-pink lace, both made alike, with trains and dainty puff sleeves; each wore a hat of lacy straw to tone, and carried a sheaf of pastel-haded sweet neas and maidenhair fern. Mr Mervyn Coombes, brother of the bridegroom. carried out the duties of best man, and another brother, Mr Charles Coombes, was groomsman. Miss M. Annibal presided at the organ. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Regent Lounge, where Mrs Noonan received over 100 guests. She looked charming in marina blue cloque, and Mrs Coombes, the bridegroom’s mother, wore a wine ripple crepe frock, with picture hat to tone. The customary toasts were enthusiastically honoured, Mr E. W. Wlhite carrying out the duties of toastmaster. Afterwards many of the guests repaired to the home of the bride’s parents for social chat and inspection of the many wedding gifts. Incidentally, photos were taken of the Coombes family the parents, seven sons and one daughter. In the evening a party was given to the younger friends of the happy couple. Mr and Mrs Coombes left subsequently on their honeymoon. They purpose making their home at Hamilton.
