FARM WORKERS ACT

AMENDMENTS REQUESTED. A decision to request the Government to amend the Agricultural Workers’ Act to provide for the exemption of women milkers from i'ts nrovisions was made at a meeting of the South Auckland Dairy Association yesterday at Hamilton. It was held that the Act, as it stood at present, required the payment of full farm workers’ wages to women milkers, notwithstanding the Hon. H. T. Armstrong’s assurance that mutual agreements regarding the women’s wages could be made. Tha meeting also decided to ask the Government to provide that the farm workers’ half-holiday should be timed between 9.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. and that it should not be necessary to exclude the evening milking, as at present provided. A protest is to be organised against several of the other provisions of the Act. according to a decision reached. In addition, it was agreed to send a deputation to wait on the Minister.
