WORK AT SALE YARDS

—.—.— NEW STOCK ROUTE INSTEAD OF MAHOE STREET. Reporting to the Borough Council’s Works Committee meeting on the 3rd inst. (and read at Monday evening’s meeting of the Council), the works foreman (Mr R. H. Close) wrote:—.“For the past two weeks we have been pushing on with the work at the municipal saleyards. All the pens are now erected, the drafting race completed, and two double-deck loading banks made ready for use. Another two days’ work will complete the concrete footpath, kerbing and channelling. The. metal is coming to hand now, and the whole of this work will be completed in the next two weeks, except for a few gates. The 3 ft. concrete, pipes have come to hand and have been placed in position. The fences round the rubbish dump adjoining the saleyards have been moved back, and there is now plenty of mom for dumping quantities of rubbism The extra entrance to the cattle pens has been made) I would suggest that the Council prohibit Maihoe Street being used as a stock route, and a notice should then be erected at the Mutu Street intersection indicating that Mangapiko Street and Gorst Avenue is to be the stock route.” The recommendations were adopted.
