AS REPORTED IN THE WAIPA POST ON 10th OCTOBER, 1911. A tender has been accepted for the erection of a Methodist parsonage, in concrete, in Te Awamutu. At the funeral of the late Mr D. M. Matheson on Saturday the pall-bear-ers were Messrs W. N. O. von Sturmer, G. Archibald, A. Kay, and G. Taylor (of the bank staff), C. Bowden, and G. M. A. Ahier. Mr S. Campbell was fatally injured when felling bush on his property at Te Pahu on Thursday. He was crushed beneath a falling tree. Mr J. A. Young, of Hamilton, announces himself as a Democratic-Lib-eral at the approaching general elections. About 6000 acres of Te Akau block are now being felled ready for settlement. Te Awamutu Cricket Club has appointed Messrs J. Ansell, J. Laurie, and F. D. Wood delegates to Waipa Cricket Association. Kawa Drainage Board has made an application to the Government for a grant to assist land drainage operations there. The main drain is now to be opened as far as Mr Teasdale’s boundary. Te Awamutu Rudge Cycling Club has elected the following officers: Patron, Mr W. N. O. von Stunner; president, Mr E. J. Miller; vice presidents, Dr J. S. Reekie and Messrs G. Spinley, W- Taylor, M. S. Laurie, and R. G. Blennerhassett; committee, Messrs C. S. Davis, R. Clark, J. Ansell, A. Robinson, T. Davis, and N. Middlebrook; captain, Mr M. G. Galloway; secretary, Mr L. North. Mr J. Hutchinson has donated a cup for competition. At a fancy dress frivol at Te Kawa the honour of belle was carried off by Miss D. Howe as Monte Carlo; Mr Hitchcock was the winner amongst the men as Major. Government surveyors are at present locating a site for a bridge across the Waipa River in the back, of the Kawa district. A successful concert at Pirongia on Friday was the means of raising £B2 for the library funds. Te Awamutu Bowling Club has elected officers as follows: Patron, Mr Wm. Taylor; president, Mr H. F. Edgecumbe; vice-presidents, Dr Pairman, Dr A. Henderson, and Dr J. S. Reekie, and Messrs R. B. Brown, W. N. O. von Sturmer, F. McGovern, J. Jackson, H. Irvine, W.' G. Park, E. 1. Miller, A. Young, H. J. Greenslade, and Colonel Allen Bell; secretary, Mr W. F. Y. Stewart; treasurer, Mr W. N. O. von Sturmer; green superintendents, Messrs G. H. White and P. Clements; committee, Rev. Wl. Woollass and Messrs M. S. Laurie, -A. S. Wallace, J. H. Jones, and P. Clements, Jnr. The first wireless message to reach Te Awamutu came to hand on Saturday, when Mr H. Y. Collins received a radiogram from Mr B. F. Chester. It was sent from the steamer Tainui when the vessel was 400 miles off the New Zealand coast.
