STOCK FROM GISBORNE
WAIKATO BUYERS SPEND OVER £20,000. Of the £40,000 which has changed hands in cattle deals in Gisborne during the last week, over half the sum was paid by Waikato buyers, who have been particularly active in the district. Auction sales of cattle were held at Matawhero on four days last week. Between 160 and 170 stud station caU tie were sold on Monday and Tuesday at an average of 40 guineas or more, making a total of over £7OOO in these alone. One beast sold as high as 100 guineas. This sum was paid for an Aberdeen Angus, and a Hereford realised 61 guineas. Taking together stud cattle and those at the ordinary cattle fair, the total sales represented an aggregate of over £43,000. In addition, a further £2OOO changed hands at a stud Hereford sale when prices went to 140 guineas, bringing the total for five days’ selling to £45,000. Practically all the stud bulls were bought by Gisborne district stationowners, but most of the cattle at the fair on Saturday and on Thursday were bought by Waikato purchasers.
