ITEMS OF INTEREST. MOVIE BALL. (Resident Representative.) The movie ball, organised by the Otorohanga Hockey Club in the Municipal Hall on Tuesday evening, drew an attendance of over 500 dancers and spectators. The Blue Boys’ Orchestra supplied pleasing dance music, whilst Mi F. Fairbrothei functioned well as the principal M.C. The home-made supper of savouries and sweets was a feature of the function. The grand parade took place at 9.30 p.m., the judges being Mesdames Bonningcon and Patterson. The following were the awards: Lady’s costume, Mrs J. Morgan (Anna May Wong); pair, the Misses Hall (Mickey Mouse costumes) ; man’s costume, Mr L. Cameron (Fred Astaire); wedding scene, bride, Miss Josie Nelson; bridesmaids, the Misses M. McColl, Greta Abel, Mavis Hunter, Joan Hayes, Jean Nelson. Dahlia Still; bridegroom, Mr C. Rae, as Charles Farrell. The patron of the Hockey Club, Mr W. Bluck, during an interval of the dancing, presented the trophies won by players during the season, speaking glowingly of the success of the club, and of their movie ball. A cyclist, Mr C. Ray, of Otewa, whilst proceeding along the Otewa Road, was struck by a motor car. owned and driven by Mr T. Warren, also of Otewa, the wheelman receiving rather severe injuries to his left leg, and he also suffered from the shock ol the impact. The bicycle was completely wrecked. The injured man is row progressing favourably. Advice has been received from the Railway Department that the New Plymouth-Auckland express, which up to now has been run as a separate train, and left Auckland at 7.18 p.m. on Sundays, will for a few trial months stop at Otorohanga at 10.54 p.m. to pick up and set down passengers. If the innovation is financially warranted, the stop will be a permanent one. Playing on the Otorohanga golf links, Schultz was the winner of the medal round, with a score of 92- -21— 68. Other good scores were those of J M. Quin 86 —17—69, and Hammond 92-—24—68. E. Taylor defeated D. McMurray in the final for tl’.e patron’s trophy over 36 holes, with a score of 8 and 7. Taylor also won the match play cup, defeating C. Prescott. Pilkington defeated C. Prescott in the semi-finals of the senior championship, after a fine contest, with a score of 2 up. Watson defeated M. Coverdale in the junior championship 2 and 1. In the ladies’ competitions Mrs H. Miller won the L.G.U. competition with a net 77. In the final ol the C grade match play competition Mrs W. I. Bowyer defeated Miss Hall 4 and 3. The Otorohanga links will te open for play throughout the year.
