A SHUNTING ENGINE
FOR TE AWAMUTU STATION YARDS. A new arrival at tlie Te Awamutu railway station is a compact little shunting engine of a new type that is to be used to facilitate the handling of the ever-increasing amount of goods trucks at the yards. The engine is English made and is one of six being imported for use at selected stations. Te Awamutu is the first station in the Auckland province to obtain one. It is called the “Drewry” engine, weighs ten tons, is fitted with fluid flywheel, pre-selectlve gear box, electric light and self starter, and is easily operated. The engine came through from Wellington under its own power, arilving yesterday, without causing a moment’s trouble throughout the long trip. It is capable of pulling rakes of trucks up to 250 tons maximum, and therefore should be of great use in the busy Te Awamutu station yards.
