TRANSPORT SERVICE

TEMPORARY LICENSES. An explanation of the position that obtains with respect to applications for temporary licenses for transport services running through two or more districts was made on Wednesday by the Licensing Authority of the No. 1 transport district, Mr E. J. Phelan:— “ Under the provisions of section 5 (1) (e) of the Transport Licensing Amendment Act, 1936,” said Mr Phelan, “ an application for a license for either a passenger or a goods service license to be carried on within two or more districts is to be dealt with by such one of the Licensing Authorities foY those districts as the Minister of Transport, Hon. R. Semple, may appoint. Since, in the case of temporary licenses, strict adherence to this requirement may cause delay, not only to the operators concerned, but also to the public generally, the No. 1 Licensing Authority advises that in order to avoid such a position arising the Minister has now directed that such application for a temporary license running through two or more districts shall be dealt with by the Licensing Authority within whose district the applicant resides.”
