The firms objected to the clause requiring all stock to be removed by 8 p.m., but finally agreement was reached. The firms are to have the use ol the holding paddock foi a year at £2B per annum, for the sale days, the day previous and the day after until 8 p.m. The conference was quite satisfactory to the Council and to the auctioneers. The Mayor said the negotiations for acquiring portion ot the Anglican Church property, in lieu ol rates overdue, are in the hands of the borough solicitors. Cr Monteflore reported that the tenant foi the catering rights at the municipal saleyards, Mr C. S. Davis, has the framework of the new building erected, and will be ready for business in a few days. Re the provision ot sewerage to the post office property, the Mayor explained that arrangements were made for the postal authorities to connect to a sewer in Walton Street when needed. This would need an extern sion ot the sewer, which at present only serves the public conveniences in that street. An application was received from Mr S. Roxborough for the issue ot a taxi driver’s license.—The application being in order, it was granted. The transfer ot ,the Borough Council’s old sandpit, about If acres, to Mr Frank Tayloi, at £lOO, was approved, possession to be given in about two years’ time. Mr B. Martin, Auckland secretary of the W.E.A.. wrote making the annual appeal for a continuation of financial assistance to the work of the association, and expressing appreciation of help afforded in the past. Tho Mayor remarked that some years ago the Council made a grant cf £5, but had not felt impelled to repeat the grant.—The communication was received. The treasurer reported that the rate subsidy for the year 1935-36 totalled £236 Is Id, as compared with £l5l 17s 6d for the previous year. The Te Awamutu District High School Committee secretary wrote again on the subject of warning ffigns for motorists approaching schools in the borough, stating that the motor regulations deal with the subject. He asked the Council to take the necessary steps for erecting the notices. The Mayoi said his impression was that the notices could be erected, but only with the permission ot the Coun cil. There was some difference in the regulations as to boroughs and counties, and he suggested that the communication be referred to the Finance Committee for inquiry.—Agreed to. W’hen a communication was read from the Conciliation Commissioner on the subject of industrial disputes, the Mayor asked the town clerk if the Council was a member of the Employers' Association. The clerk replied in the negative. Cr Gifford said the Council was at one time' a member of the association. The clerk said the Court was to hear evidence in the motor drivers’ claim for higher wages. All local bodies are included as parties to the dispute. The Mayor thought there would be a local bodies’ award as distinct from private employers. Further consideration was deferred
