AT THE REGENT. AGAIN TO-NIGHT. “CAPTAIN BLOOD.” Robert Barrat, the veteran actor, is grateful for the fact that he is powerfully built. Otherwise his task in the cosmopolitan production “ Captain Blood," now showing at the Regent Theatre as a first release, would have been quite impossible. Barrat spent four nights lugging 1851 b Ross Alexander around the studio lot on his back. Alexander supposedly has been whipped at the stake shortly before the escape. Too weak to stand on his own feet, he has to be carried. To Barrat, playing the role of Wolverstone, the strongest of the escaping slaves, falls the lot of carrying Alexander. WEDNESDAY ONLY. “THE MARRIAGE OF CORBAL.” The principal offering at the local Regent TTieatre on Wednesday evening, is the British Empire film, “The Marriage of Corbal,” said to be an even greater and more absorbing thriller than “The Scarlet Pimpernel!.” Heading the cast are Noel Berry, Hazel Terry and Nils Aster, the latter being especially well cast. ‘“The Marriage of Corbal” should attract a large audience, especially as there are well-selected supports. AT THE EMPIRE. FINAL SCREENING TO-NIGHT. •Love always finds a way even to beat a horserace, as James Gleason and his son Russell, with Margaret Callahan, discover in “ Hot Tip.” Young Gleason loves pretty Margaret Callahan in the rollicking story and entrusts to James Gleason, his father, his life’s savings, to be bet on a “ lead-pipe cinch,” to provide him with enough funds to overcome his future motljer-in-law’s objections to the match. When Gleason loses the money he sells his business several times over, which gives him funds to keep play-
ing the races to recoup the boy’s money. Hilarious comedy is interspersed with spine-tingling racing thrills and many dramatic situations before his efforts meet with success in one of the most unusual endings ever brought to the screen. Zasu Pitts is co-featured with Jas. Gleason in “Hot Tip,” Rollo Lloyd, Kay Mayer, Wulie Best, and Kitty McHugh also appear in this R.K.O. Radio picture under Gleason and Ray McCarey’s co-direction. -
