While proceeding by motor bus to Te Kuiti to play the annual fixture with the King Country the Thames Valley representative footballers met with disaster, for the bus overturned near the Narrows bridge, and several of the players were injured—so much so that three of them (Messrs Sutherland, Rowe, and Mortimer) were unable to play, and others were badly shaken and bruised, and therefore could not give of their best in the game. King Country eventually won the contest by 18 points to 8.
