SCOUTS CONCERT
GOOD PROGRAMME: SMALL ATTENDANCE. The concert,at the Town Halbl on Wednesday evening, in aid ot the local Boy Scouts' organisation, proved very interesting, but it was regretted that the very wet weather prevailing had kept many ot the public away. However, those present thoroughly appreciated the items, and were warm in their applause, especially commending the adult contributions, toi which Mrs E. W. White was largely responsible. The No. 2 Cub Pack, under Miss Allen’s guidance, presented a shadow play, and the Scout Troop gave an exhibition of bridge building and a knotting display by No. 1 Cub Pack under Miss Mairs. The No. 2 Cub Pack gave a musical dull, and the Rover Scouts caused much merriment with stories without words, styled, "Mother . Goes to Bridge,” and “What Father does when Mother goes to Bridge." A Cockney sketch by Akela No. 2 Pack (Miss Allen) was also amusing, and No. 1 Cub Pack's “Living Compass” was decidedly interesting. No. 2 Cub Pack next entertained with a Maori canoe action song, and Miss Mairs gave an elocutionary item. “The Scouts Prepare for a Week-end -Camp” was also an item that proved interesting and amusing. After the interval Mr C. S. Wood (Pirongia) contributed a much enjoyed elocutionary item, Miss Ray a pianoforte solo, Mrs E. Hooper a soprano solo, Mr N. Newton a violin solo, and Mrs Wood elocution besides a wand drill by five young Indies. All were heartily encored. The wand drill was one of the prettiest items seen on a Te Awamutu stage for a long time. Mrs Wood’s item was also one that came in for special demonstrations bi appreciation.
