SALUTE IN MID-OCEAN
MEETING OF TWO ’PLANES Two flying-boat pilots had a surprise in mid-Atlantic recently. TJiey were pilots of Air France, carrying the first mails on a new weekly service between Europe and South America. One was flying from Natal In Brasil and the other from Dakar in French West Africa, and they were about a thousand miles out when they saw each other and dipped in salute. It is said to be the first occasion on record that two 'planes flying across the Atlantic in opposite directions have met in midocean. Even in days to come when Atlantic services are much more frequent such meetings are not likely to be very common.
The mails for London reached Croydon from Santiago de Chile, 9400 miles away, in four and a-halt days, just five minutes after the time they were due.
