WHICHEVER WAY
Fred Stanley, a salesman, was in court in San Francisco, accused of assault by Mr and Mrs Roy McGinty. Mrs McGinty had a black eye for which she blamed Mr Stanley. He protested: “I am too chivalrous to hit a woman,” he said. “But if she said I did I am too much of a gentleman to contradict her.”
