A STRONG PROTEST

The Mayor (Mr R. Coulter) strongly protests against the inaccurate report in last Tuesday’s Herald re the borough finances. It is customary, he says, for the Council to work on the profits of the trading departments, and thus keen down the rates to the lowest possible amount. The said departments show very considerable profits for the half year, but these profits had not been transferred to the general account on 30th September. The note of caution by the Mayor was for the purpose of keeping the finances in the present highly satisfactory position, unequalled by an similar local body in the province.
