THAMES VALLEY RUGBY UNION

A meeting of the above Union was held in Baine’s rooms, Paeroa, on Tuesday evening last. Dr. Lawrence (president) occupied the chair, and Messrs J. Roach and R. Woodroffe (Piako), C. S. Foster, H. L. Lockyer (Te Aroha) were also in attendance.

A big discussion took place in regard to the Poland Cup fixtures, and it was eventually decided to play two rounds. Piako’s offer of £lO and Waihi and Paeroa’s of 25 per cent, of the gate when Hauraki Plains (the present holders) play them on their respective grounds was accepted by them. It was decided to commence these games on 13th June, and the following is the draw:— , June 13th: Piako v. Hauraki Plains at Ngatea; Paeroa v. Waihi at Waihi. June 27th: Hauraki Plains v. Paeroa at Paeroa; Piako v. Waihi at Te Aroha.

July 11th: Plains v. Waihi at Waihi; Piako v. Paeroa at Paeroa. For the second round the fixtures are reversed, nnd dates will be arranged later. Mr Callaghan, delegate to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union, gave his report of business done there, and on the motion of Dr. Lawrence he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Several matches will be played with other Unions this season fixtures with Auckland, Waikato and King Country having been arranged, and these matches will be played at Te Aroha, Saturday, August 15th, probably being the date of the King Country—Thames Valley match.

It was decided that four selectors be appointed and the following were elected: C. S. Foster (Hauraki Plains), W. White (Paeroa), L. Allen (Piako) and J. Berryman (Waihi) x ' Mr Callaghan reported that he acted as instructed prior to attending the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Unipng ifi; 'regard to arranging for the.: affiliation of the Thames Valley Referees’ Association in lieu of Waihi, as formerly, with the Npw Zealand Referees’ Association, ?and he was pleased to state that it had been granted. The president of the Thames Valley Rugby Union intimated to the Referees preseht that their body would pay the cost of the affiliation. Matters pertaining to referees controlling the Poland Cup fixtures were discussed, and it was decided to revert to the old method, that is that a referee from one of the other sub-asso-ciations officiate at matches away from home instead of home; and home referees as was the case last year. Mr Penlington, president of the Referees’ Association, informed the delegates that the referees had also discussed that subject and had decided the same way. In the junior representative competition for the Sharebroker’s Cup, now held by Piako, it was decided that two rounds be played, instead of a knock-out as formerly, and the following is the draw: — June 13th: Piako v. Paeroa at Te Aroha; Waihi a bye. June 27th: Waihi v. Piako at Waihi; Paeroa a bye. July 11th: Waihi v. Paeroa at Paeroa; Piako a bye. The second round will be arranged at a lqter date. A recommendation from the Referees’ Association was that in the case of a cup final in any of the sub-Un-ion’s under control of the Thames Valley Rugby Union, where an outside referee is required, that the local Union concerned notify the Thames Valley Referees’ Association, that body to select a suitable man.

It was also decided to procure an official badge for each of the Union’s executive.

A vote of thanks to the chair closed a successful meeting.
