FIRE

QUICK WORK BY BRIGADE At about 8 o’clock last evening a fire broke out in a house occupied by Mr Scott, in Whitaker street. It started in a room abutting on Mr Scott’s premises and which almost touches the adjoining house occupied by Mr Glover, but how it started is not known. Mr Scott was away, and only Mrs Scott and the children were in the house. The Fire Brigade was at the scene of the fire within a very short time and immediately got to work, with the result that the fire was extinguished in its incipient stages. Very little damage was done. Many people were in the street at the time the fire bell rang, and about 300 assembled in a few minutes at the scene of the fire.
