HAMILTON STOCK SALE The Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report: — At Hamilton on Tuesday, January 22nd, we had a large yarding of sheep and pigs. Cattle were ‘however in short supply. In consequence beef improved considerably in value and was eagerly competed for. , Light steers made to £B/2/-, best cows from £5 to £6/17/6, medium weights £3/16/- to £4/18/-, forward cows £2/5/- to £3/2/-, stores £l/11/to £2. Competition for sheep was not so brisk as the week previous. There was a fair offering of fat sheep, ewes making from 10/6 to 24/9, forward sorts 15/- to 18/-. Lambs were strongly in prominence but ,• bidders seemed reluctant except in a few instances when good sales were witnessed. There was a general decline of about 2/- per head. For such a large yarding the proportion of real rape lambs was noticeably, small and it was made apparent when suitable pens were under competition that the demand for this article is keen. Prices realised were: Rape lambs shorn 17s 4d to 18/6, good store lambs 14/- to 16/3, medium 10/D to 13/3, small 8/to 9/6. Ewes were not sought after and the various lines submitted proved difficult to quit.
Pigs were yarded in full numbers and values ruled much on the basis of last sale. Best baconers made from £3/5/- to £4/3/-, light baconers £2 15/- to £3/5/-, porkers £2/2/6 to £2 12/6, stores and slips 23/- to 34/-, weaners 9/6 to 16/-.
