SPEEDING UP TRAINS

SU G GESTED IM PRO VEM ENT A letter forwarded by the Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce received at the Morrinsville Chamber s meeting on Wednesday evening caused a discussion on the late train services. It was suggested that the train which leaves Thames at 4 p.m. daily and arrives at Frankton (when it can) at about 8.30 p.m., should be speeded up so as to.reach the junction at about 7 o’clock, and be run right through to Auckland. Arrival could then be made in the city before the last trains leave for the suburbs. There are two other trains—one from Rotorua and one from Te Kuiti —which it is considered could with advantage bo run to arrive at Frankton simultaneous with that from the Thames. This would make the way clear for one of the trains to run through to Auckland, as proposed, and passengers from Thames, Rotorua and the King Country would not have the unnecessary wait all night in order to catch, the main trunk express at Frankton at 3.30 a.m. The whole matter was fully thrashed out, and finally it was decided that while the Morrinsville Chamber was in accord with any, suggestion for improvement of the railway service between Waikato and Auckland, it was not prepared to support the present scheme until more precise details were supplied.
