Hamilton will celebrate its diamond jubilee next year, when 60 years will have elapsed since the first band of military settlers landed in close proximity to the present traffic bridge. In 1914 it was proposed to mark the jubilee of the settlement of Hamilton in an appropriate manner. Arrangements were made, but just three weeks before the anniversary the >■ Great War broke out, and the function was cancelled.
