Wagstaff presided over the assemblage of settlers, which numbered about 20. A report was received from Mr G. W. Horn, a member of the Roads Committee of the Waitoa riding. Mr Horn detailed the findings of the committee, stating the rate necessary per acre for a loan to bitumen seal the whole of Eastport road and metal No. 2 road to Ohine creek. The matter was thoroughly discussed and a motion was moved by Mr Horn and seconded by Mr Palliser that a loan be raised to do tie work as suggested. Mr J. D. Mackay .moved and Mr Spoule seconded an amendment that the Waihou ratepayers fronting on Bailey’s road and Ngutumanga road be invited to join in a proposed special rating area to seal the whole of Eastport- road, the main road leading to the Waihou railway station.
