A pur.L.lo trial of the maxim erun, which has been in tho aimaraent court, at the Exhibition, \vas> made at tho Wiliiatnstown rifle range, Melbourne, ]a«t week. Tho trial Ma,-> a revelation. The ffnn was laid first at 200 yards. Aladypte.«sedabubton foralittlt* over one second and 13 shots were fired, nine ot which were bull's eyes. Ser^cantMa]or Poitor then pressed the button for 17f-econd-, hying 167s>hofc^, 159 being hito. The weapon was afterwards successfully tried up to 600 yards. The longest test \\ as proMng the button for 27 seconds, i luring which time 280 shots were fired. The next longest test was 24 seconds, 240 lounds beinj^ fired. The performance of bho gun, which ia of one bauel only, excited general admiration, ibs efficiency being fully proved. A sfcion^ wind was blowing a*-, tho time.
