WAS HE SHOT? Vienna, January 30.
The sudden death of the Archduke Rudolp" has created a tremendous sensation throughout Austria. It appears that he had arranged a shooting party for to-day, and not feeling well yesterday retired to bed early. He was occupying the bhooting lodge at Meyerling, Badon, and when the sporting guests assembled at the lodge this morning, the absence of Prince Rudolph caused the valet to enter the bedroom, when he found the Prince lying in bed quite dead, evidently having expired during the night from apoplexy. Tho Bourse and theatres are closed, and all business suspended. The Reichsrath has also adjourned. London, January 30. Telegrams received from Vienna state that the Archduke Rudolph died of heart disease at his country house. Another account says that he was fatally wounded while out shooting. Vienna, January 30. The official assertion that the death of Archduke Rudolph was the result ot apoplexy is disbelieved, and it is rumoured that he shot himself through the heart in a fit of jealousy. An eye-witness declares thac he saw marks of blood on the body when it was discovered by the \alet. Universal sorrow at the death of the Piinco is expressed throughout the nation, and the event has caused a profound sensation in all the European capitals. Ib is sfcatod that Prince Rudolph for months past had a piesentiment that ho would meet with an early death. The Empress broke the news to tho Emperor and Princess Stephanie, uifo of Prince Rudolph, who was prostrated by the shock. The Archduke Charles succeeds Prince Rudolph. London, January 31. The correspondent of the " Daily News telegraphs that the death was the result of a rifle wound. Vienna, January 31. Persistent reports are current that Prince Rudolph committed suicide. The " Neve Freie Presse," one of the leading political and commercial ] newspapers, has been seized by the authorities for publishing a description j of the deceased's body. Vienna, February 1. Still another rumour is mentioned as to the cause of the death ot Prince Rudolph. It is said that he took a lady into his chateau, where he was followed by the enraged husband, who shot him dead. The funeral will take place on the sth, but no foreign princes will attend. It is alleged that the yost-mortcm examination showed that the cause of death was paralysis of the heart, the result of an attack of rheumatism. London, January 31. Telegrams from Vienna as to the cause of the deatli of Prince Rudolph are being suppressed by the Austrian Government. Vienna, February 1. An official statement has been published in the "Vienna Gazette" to the effect lhat the Prince Rudolph committed suicide. The revolver was a bad one, and the shot lodged in the Prince's head.
