Oh, palpitating, blue, expanding sea ! Thou ever wort to me A fount of wonder, awe, and strange delight. Which thrills my soul tj'en more than docs the sight O£ woman's loveliness, in all the mystery Of beauty's majesty. Thou restless, wailing, cA r er-troubled sea, 1 vecoff uifac in thee A mm or of my agitated boul, So te upcst-tossed, ao weixry of tlic whole Incomprehensible and incessant strife 'Twixt peace and lite. I hear tbee sing a dirge, sad, dark blue sea, With mournful melody, For a 1 ! the dead who through eternity Shall sloop in thy embrace. Tncessantly My heart, too, hums a dirge in constant mono tone For joj s for ever gone. T watch thy silver waves and see them reach The rocky slicll-strewri beach. What am I hut a. wave upon the vast Expanding sea of time;. Itoo at last, Perhaps ere long, shall reach that silent shore, Where breakers foam no more.
