Allam.u'lilr., the printer of Versailles, who was .supposed to iuive inherited 25,000,000 francs from a testator \t ho died in America lias been inundated by letters. Among these were 800 communications of all sorts and sizes from women j 30 letters from people who wanted to float newspapers, waxwork,", waterworks, railways, mines, ard every kind of financial undertaking ; 230 letters from patentees ; 27 from poets ottering copies of their latest productions ; and a myriad of others fiom tradesmen, bbrutjglinj* lawyers, litterateurs painter s, musicians, actors, and ' quacks.' The women's letteis were the most amusing of all. There was the ->vcle and symmetrical sylph, with golden hair, the widow of a general who mode&tiy represented herself as of ' a certain a^e,' but well-preserved, calculated lo assure the felicity of a millionaire. Then there was a laundress who loved compositors, and a score of milliners. Some of these letteis bore curious addressee, &ueh as : 'To 11. Allamaclier, ex-Printer,' or f To the Heir of Five Million Dollars, at Versailles,' or" 'To M. Allamachei*, of Versailles, the Impersonation of Virtue Rewarded.'
