TE AROHA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The first monthly meeting of the above, committee was held on Tuesday evening last. Present : Rev. J. Marshall, (chairman), J. llott, (sec), J. Lavery, J Comes, E. Gallagher. Minutes of the first meeting of committee, for election of chairman, etc., were read and confirmed. Mr Lavery referred to the advisability of appointing as a committee two of the members each month to visit and report on the school, and who would see that any necessary repairs, etc., were attendeJ to ; and remarked that the arrangement had been found to work very satisfactorily during tho past year. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Lavery, that visiting committees be appointed each month. Resrlved, on the motion of Mr llott, that Messrs Lavery and Conn's bo appointed the visiting committee for the piesent month, wiih power to act with respect to making all necessary arrangements for heating the school rooms, etc. Some discussion took place regarding the best form of appliance for heating, the basket grates provided last year not answering expectations ; and it was iigrced t!>at it would be advisable to provide register grates. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Jonios, that tho Secretary be requested to wite to the Board of Education asking that two register grates for the school- house and one for the teacher's residence be provided. Correspondence. — The head teacher's monthly certificate and report for the month of April were read, in which the number on the roll was stated to bo 134, | average attendance 100.2, The report also stated that Miss Baskett, the recently appointed probationary pupil teacher displajod aptitude for teaching, and had made fair progress during the month.
