WAITOA.
Return from Waitoa Deposit. — -In onr last issue we stated that one ton of the auriferous deposit from Mr J. B. Smith's, Waitoa, treated at Waiorongomai battery had given a return of 12s per ton, and that Mr 11. [I. Adams in communicating the result to Mr Smith said he " was highly satisfied knowing that it had only had berdan treatment." We have since learned that the words, ** was highly satisfied," etc., in the telegram we received reporting ths retnrn, should have been read as Mr Smith's own comment on the return, instead of being attributed to MiAdams ; the mistake aiising through the telegraphic message having been read by us as being in its entirety a repitition of the message sent by Mr Adams to Mr Smith ; a mistake that mihg^t easily occur, owing to absence of punctuation in transmission of telegrams. Mr Adams simply wired as follows : " Value of bullion return from one ton of deposit twelve shillings." The parcel of deposit from Mr Strange's farm is now under treatment at Firth nnd Clarkes battery, but will not nil have k been put through for several days yet.
