Mr Wi Pere, M.H.R., has received the f )liu»lne telegram from Rotorua, dated six p.m. :— Te Keepa and his hapu who live at Wairoa are safe. There were only nine persons killed and six Europeans, but we suppose the greater part of the Tohurangi and Ngatirangitiki hapus are all lost because no fugitives have yet arrived. The number of those missing are over 100 persons. Rangihewea is the chief of the Ki^ngas, which have been destroyed by fiie and springs where the earth is on fire. Te Ariki and Moura are the names of the kaingas , immediately under the Tarawera mountain, and Te Wairoa also. The other kainSas which suffered are further up. The houses and streams ai*e all buried with the earth of Tarawera mountain, which was lifted by the tire between heaven and earth and when it descended' it covered all the country/ Later on we shall know which places have suffered. Sir Julius Vogel has received the following telegram from from Napier, dated 8.6 p.m. :— " The whole of Tikitere has burst into fire. Tikitere is about nine miles north-east of Ho tor ua.
