Ariki Buried.

Sekgt. Caiiill, who was ono of the boating party under Major Mail 1 , which crossed Kotomahana yesterday, camo into Rotorua at midnight. He reports that the boat reached tho fail eof Te Arilri. They found tho settlement buried to a depth of twenty feet There was no trace of life or habitation. No human aid could have availed them anything.

Moura believed 10 be submerged. Mouva, a native settlement on the point of Tarawera where it bends towards Arika, is believed to have shifted bodily into the lake. If help could ever have been of use to the natives there it is too late now. The boat party found oveek that flowed from Rotomahana into Lake Tarawera completoly stopped up. Rotomahana itself was previously reported nothing but a mass of mud geysers and fumaroles, and no trace could be seen of the magnificent Tarata, the great queen of Rotomahana, whose beauty will live in the memory of those who have seen it for ever. Unless some further disaster occurs from the slipping of mud or an outbreak of increased volcanic energy, this probably closes the record of the great eruption, and anything further will be minor and incidental. Nine natives came into from Matata destitute and wore relieved by the boating party. Sergeant Cahill, who came in last night, reports a great landslip near Takitapu. He had great difficulty getting through.
