INTERVIEW WITH CROWN PRINCE.
LOjNDON, September 2d
Mr lan Malcolm, M.P., lias published a volume of “War Pictures.” It includes an extract from his diary relating to an interview in Berlin in January, 19lT The Crown Prince suggested! that England and Germany ought to be better friends, but “it is impossible while you are friends of such people as the French and Russians. You have nothing in common with them, but nearly everything in common with us. Together we could divide Europe and keep fhe peace of the world for ever. Mr Malcolm recalled the impossibility of breaking the existing treaties.
Th e Crown Prince said: “You could shut your eye s and let us take the French colonies. "We want them. Mr Malcolm: Forgive me, but surely it is better to improve the colonies you have before you take those of other people.
The Crown Prince: That is candid, but none of our colonies are worth anything. Otherwise you would have had them long ago.
The interview closed with the Crown Prir,c e exclaiming: “I want
war. I want to have a smack at those French awine as soon as ever I can.”
