TRAMP TO AKAROA.
Y.M.CJL SUMMIT ROAD TOUR. Yesterday a par\y of 30 T.M.C.A. inembers completed the first stago of s three-days' tramp to Akaroa over' the route of the future Summit Road. The excursion is the first organised walking tour yet made over the route, -which as yet has' been traversed for its full length only by surveyors and those directly interested in the Summit Road scheme. The party was met at the Hills tram terminus by Mr H. G. Ell, who had Volunteered to act as guide. At the Kennedy's Bush rest-house a halt was made for lunch, at which the trampers •were the guests, of Mr T. C. Field, president of the Y.M.C.A., and Mrs Field. The hosts and the rest-house keeper (Mr Bushel!) were heartily eheerd as ihe party continued its journey. I>e- . Spite the rain, everyone was in good Spirits. Marching songs and performances on all kinds of "musical" instruments helped to make the way more Eleasant. At evening the Kaituna restouse, 17 miles from the starting point, was reached, and the party camped there for the night. To-Pay's objective J.s the Port Levy saddle, wßfcre the jparty will camp in the open. To-mor-row eveniug the party should reach Tikau Bay, opposite Akaroa, where a tamp lias been prepared. Durjng the latter part of yesterday's journey the ranipera followed the survey pegs I Which mark the line of the future road, and further on they will traverse a good deal of through which no . tracks have vet been made. The food '»nd blankets of the party are being transported from one camping place to ■ another by easier routes, on a motor provided by Mr G. 11. Royds, and pack-horses furnished by Messrs Walter Parkinson, of Kaituna Valley, and (Sullivan, of Little River.
