TO-DAY'S CASES. Mr S. K. McCarthy. S.M., presided over n sitting of the Magistrate's Court this morn"lirunkenness.—Three first offenders were ouch lined 5/-, i" delimit 21 hours' imprisonment. ~..,,. , , , His Weakness.—George Williams pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, and not guilty to using obscene language in the presence of children. Defendant, who refused to lie sworn or to alllrni, stated that drink was Ills weakness, and when he was drunk he became, dangerous. He did not remember using bad language, and admitted that he still felt "groggy." The Magistrate said that had language would not he tolerated. The accused would he convicted and discharged for drunkenness; on the other charge he would be lined i' 3, in default one month's imprisonment. It was a great pity that defendant, recognising his weakness, did not abstain from drinking. Scaffolding Accident.—Alexander Gunn was fined £1 for failing to notify an accident in connection with a scaffolding. Drench of Order.—Harry Caliill was lined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment, for procuring liquor during the currency of his prohibition order. On Licensed Premises.—Arthur Thomas was lined 1(1/-, with costs, In default three days' imprisonment, In respect of a charge that he was found on the premises of the Terminus Hotel when such premises were required to he closed. i'luir K e Withdrawn.—Hy leave of the Court the charge of being an idll* and disorderly person preferred against .lames Baxter Ker was withdrawn. Chief-Detective Mcllveney stilted that defendant had appeared mi a more serious charge, and had already been iu custody 11 weeks. Maintenance.—Alfred Joseph Osborne was ordered to pay £22 8/- expenses in connection with a child of which lie was previously adjudged the putative lather. A separation order was issued against William Joseph Stanley, on the application of his wife, Klittihcth Stanley i.Mr .1. A. I'leslier).
