RAIDS IN BAGDAD.
PROPAGANDA SEIZED. CROWDS SAVE EXTREMISTS. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. «Rec. Aug. 17, 12.3) DELHI, Aug. 14. The authorities at Bagdad sent parties to the homes of the extremists blamed for the recent trouble on the Euphrates, and a flood of propaganda was seized. The police failed to effect any arrests of extremists owing to the action of the crowds, who also fired on the reserves who were assisting the police. Eventually, nine men were arrested. The rioters lost six killed and 12 wounded. Later a company of infantry arrived and swept the town from end to end. There were no further disturbances and the town is quiet. The military are taking precautions against further outbreaks. Bagdad advices state that the situation on August 15, between Hillah and Bagdad has improved. Our forces occupied Maisaiyab on August 14, thus restoring the situation in this area. There is no news from Mosul owing to the telegraphic breakdown.
