CATHEDRAL CHOIR.

TROUBLE WITH DIRECTOR. EFFECT OK CHORAL FESTIVAL. For some time there have be»n differences between some of the pai.l choristers, or lay clerks, of the Christchurch Cathedral, and the organist anil choirmaster, Dr J. C. Bradshaw. The trouble culminated in the intervention of the Chapter, which is the governing body of the Cathedral. However, the matter now appears to have been settled, following the resignation of one of the lay clerks.

Still another trouble lias arisen in which the choir is concerned. In this instance, friction has developed betwecu the choir, and the Christchureh Diocesan Choral Association, ami, as a consequence, it is unlikely that the choir will take part in the approaching annual festival of the association. This association comprises most of the parish choirs in Ghristchureh ami the surrounding districts, and the Cathedral choir has always taken a prominent part iti the festivals. Indeed, Dr Bradshaw has acted as director and organist at most of these. On several occasions he has acted as organist only, but it is claimed that his wishes regarding a choice of director have always previously been taken into consideration. In connection with the approaching festival, there has not been the usual full understanding between the association and Dr Bradshaw, who has therefore withdrawn his services. In taking this stand, he hss received the support of the Cathedral choir. The Cathedral authorities are not directly interested in this matter, and have not taken any official part therein. There seems no reason why the festival should not be held, as usual, in the Cathedral area.
