THE "TALLY-HO!" BALL.

HUNT CLUB'S GATHERING. A rousing "Tally ho!" from the huntsman's horn fittingly opened the Christchurch limit Club's hall, which was hold in thy Art Gallery last' evening, and which was attended by many followers of the sport in Canterbury and other centres of New Zealand. Outside, all was rain and bluster, dampness ami discomfort, but inside the Art Gallery all was light and brightness and gaiety, and dancing went with a swing from the number which followed on the heels of the opening "Tally-ho!" until the chords of the' very last one crashed 'themselves to silence. The gallery where dancing took place had the walls lined with black, with groups of hunting emblems appearing at intervals, while some very line hunting pictures also hung on the walls. Festoons of red were used with discretion, and the ceiling was composed of red and white muslin. The permanent gallery filled its usual dual function of lounge and supper room, some verylovely flowering hothouse plants in pots being used in the decorations. The small adjoining room was turned into a buffet for the serving of light refreshments between the dances, and also as a smoking room. Music for the dancing was supplied by Miss Mnedonald's • orchestra, and proved very popular, almost all the numbers being encored. Needless to say, some very beautiful and stylish gowns, many of them imported from London and Continental fashion centres, were worn. Draping was a feature, and it must be said that the soft evening.dress materials of the present day lend themselves most admirably to this kind of graceful manipulation. The tendency for gowns to be very bouffant about the hips, and very narrow towards the feet, was also well sustained.
