MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
TO-DAY'S CASES. Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate's Court this morning. Drunkenness. —A female first offender was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon." An-, other first offender was fined 5/-, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. A statutory first offender was fined £l, in default seveu days'< imprisonment. Theft.—James John Evans pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing an overcoat valued at £7 7/-, the property of Walter Grant.
Chief-Detective Mcllveney stated that accused had taken the coat after a dance at the Caledonian Hall. The Magistrate ordered the accused to return, the stolen property. He would be convicted and ordere.d to come up for sentence when called upon, and he will have to report to the probation officer once a week for 12 months.
