SPARROW SHOOTING MATCH.
I A sparrow match was shot off at the Christcliurch Gun Club's grounds at Sock- . burn yesterday. The shoot was a handicap one, 10 birds, and the prize was a trophy valued at £5, donated by the Christchurch | Club, as well as the whole of the sweepstake money. A good contest took place, the birds being good and shooting being made difficult by the wind. There were 22 entrants, including visitors i from other parts of New Zealand, in the principal event:—E. I). McLachlan (Masterton) 20yds, <i. L. Winger (Auckland) lfiyds, .1. Pilcher (North Canterbury) 20yds and E. Lansdale (Southland) 18yds, shot nine out of a possible 10 birds, and divided £22. In the shoot-oil" for the trophy, Winger and Lansdale missed their first bird, and a keen contest between McLachlan and Pilcher resulted in Pilcher securing the trophy on the eighth round. Eighteen shooters came forward for a £1 sweepstake, which resulted in E. Lansdale 19>ds and T. Pilcher 20yds dividing. E. F. Stead 25yds won a third £1 sweepstake. A ;")/- sweep, won by E. Lansdale 19yds and H. Clinch (Auckland) 19yds, concluded the shooting.
