BLINDED SOLDIERS.
FUND OF £20,000 SUGGESTED. Preis Association. WELLINGTON, August 12. A proposal that a fund of £20,000 be established for the future care of New Zealand blinded soldiers was made to the Advisory Board of the War Relief Societies by Mr Clutha Mackenzie this morning. So far, said Mr Mackenzie, blinded soldiers had been looked after very well, but they should look to the future, and draw up a definite plan. There were 25 blinded soldiers in New Zealand. Their future should be provided for. The best way would bo to make a man happy, and keep him busy, by giving him plenty to do. Poultry farming was specially suitable for such a man. A blind man could not make this pay, and he suggested, therefore, that a definite fund be created, by which the earnings of these men should be subsidised, £ for £. Sixteen societies had approved of his scheme. It was stated that the commercial travellers' fund for blinded soldiers totalled £3.365.
