LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
WHO IS IRELAND? To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —Many people will agree with your statement, that if Sinn Fein "is not Ireland" it has no right to speak for Ireland. In such circumstances Sinn Fein would have no more right to defy the constitution'than had Sir Edward Carson when his Gracious Majesty signed the Home Rule Bill of 1013. And, sir, you further state that Sinn Fein is "emphatically not Ireland." It is good to know that The Sun can speak ir, such a dogmatic tone on a question that to everyone else is a mystery. As you are so confident, .why should you dread the application of the principle of self-determination—a principle for which so many Irish soldiers bled and died on the battlefields of Europe? If Sinn Fein be in the minority, surely' that obnoxious republic would not materialise!—l am, etc., OBSERVER. P.S.—-I bet you don r t publish this. fOiir correspondent loses, though on .the actual merits of his letter, he deserved to win his watfer. If he Is prepared to challenge the statement that Sinn Fein Is not Ireland—well, we can only fee] sorry to" him.—Ed., The Sun.]
