ILLICIT COMMISSIONS.
BUILDING ?RADE AFFECTED. [Special to The Sun.] WANGANUI, August 10. For some time past there has been a suspicion in certain circles that tipping has prevailed in the local timber yards, and those who "grease the palm" are those who receive preference in timber supplies. That the practice does obtain is confirmed by the manager of the Wauganui Sash and Door Co., who, in the course of a letter in to-night 'a paper, points out that the system of palmgreasing is done, not so much as an inducement for ordermeu to beat their employers, as to secure priority over the timber in the yards. Investigations proved that the greater culprit was the casual buyer, and not the standard contractor. If the pernicious system is allowed to continue, the manager maintains that bulders will be reluctantly forced to protect themselves, audi thereby still furtlier increase the cost ' of; building. '
