Miss Elsie Batchelor (Dunedin) is on a visit to Christchurch. Dv Eleanor Baker arrived from the north by this morning's boat. Sir Charles and Lady Campbell (Cheviot) are staving at Warner's. Mr and Mrs ,1. W. Woodhouse (Methven) are the guests of Mrs T. Gibson. Mr and Mrs .lames Boag (Sumner) nave left on an extended motor tour of North Island. Miss Una Rattray (Dunedin) is staying with Mrs G. H. Helm ore for the gaieties this week. Mr and Mrs C. W. D. Bell" and Miss Violet Bell arrived from Wellington by the Maori this morning. Mr and Mrs Alex Me Master (Amberley) are the quests of Mr and Mrs Gower Burns, Chester Street. Mr and Mrs Elliston Orbell (Dunedin) are the guests of the latter's sisters, the Misses Tabart, Papanui Road. Miss Emily Dunham has returned from Calton Hill, Dunedin, where she spent the winter with Mrs G. F. Taylor. Mr and Mrs Melville Jameson and Miss Alice McLaren (Timaru) are the trues*, of Mrs .1. B. Beckett, Victoria Street. The Hon. H. L. Michel and Mrs Michel (Hokittka), Mr and Mrs Priest (Timaru) and Mr and Mrs Garland (Auckland) are amongst the guests at '' St. Elmo.'' Mr R. Rosewarne, Esplanade, North Beach, is leaving for a busiuess and pleasure trip to Australia by the Moana. Mrs Rosewarne and Miss Jessie Rosewarne will accompany him. The firm and-staff of Sargood, Son and Ewen, Ltd.. held the first of a series of dances in the Orange Hall last night, .and a very enjoyable time was recorded. The committee comprised the Misses Wood, Glasson and Cooper, Messrs Partridge, Phillips, Cox and Besley. Songs were given at intervals by Mr and,, Mrs Edgar, Messrs Lidgett, Tennant, Partridge and Hough, the accompaniments being played by Miss Hough, who also, together with Messrs Partridge and Phillips, played the extras. A dainty supper was served during the evening. Miss Macdonald supplied the music for the dance programme. The next Anzac Ball will be held in the Tea Kiosk, Metropolitan Trotting Grounds, on August 19, and preparations calculated to make it a great success are in hand. The committee in charge of the arrangements are: —Mesdames T. Tomlinson. J. S. Neville. Misses T. Reading, E. Cuthbert, T. Raphael, G. McArthur. A. Quinn, W. Byrch, Messrs W. Rix, G. Wright, A. 11. Campbell, F. Ruck, F. Douds, G. M. Patrick, H. J. Knight, J. Hannah, W. E. Leadley (secretary) and V. M. Edgar (treasurer). The chaperons will be Mesdames H. T...T. Thacker, G. Rhodes, H. Holland, J. B. Merrett, H. R, Smith and C. G. Dalgety. * At the conclusion of the valuable series of lectures on home nursing, given by Miss Muir, the Y.W.C.A. has arranged for a course of three lectures on the care of infants and young children. / These lectures commence this evening. Plunket Nurse Mackie will demonstrate the proper way to bathe and dress an infant, and will give sound advice as to the right food for children of different ages. One'lecture* will deal with children's ailments and how to treat them.
