A Boom to Motorists

A few years ago Canterbury motorists had to splash through numerous little streams across the road of the province. In the past few years, however, the Canterbury Automobile Association has done a great work for all automobile owners in its district by subsidising local bodies in the provision of culverts across such streams. The accompanying 'illustration shows one of these streams with a culvert at the side. That system of bridging water-races, however, has been abandoned in favour of more complete bridging in the centre of the roadway. The Canterbury Automobile Association is now refusing to contribute towards the cost of any culvert that is not in the centre of the road.
