REPATRIATION BOARD.

WEEKLY MEETING. The Canterbury v Repatriation Board met last evening, there being present:— Messrs A. F. Drayton (acting chairman), J. A. Clarke, E. J. Howard, F. W. Hobfcs, W. E. Leadley, N. B. McCalluni, J. D. Millton, F. T. Eldridge, D. Jones, H. S. J. Goodman, P. Davidson and C. H. Hewlett. The Sustenance and' Furniture Committee reported that six applications for sustenance bad been granted. Nineteen applications had been received for the furniture grant, and of these two had been held over and 17 granted. One application from a local committee bad been granted. - The report was adopted. The Trades, Tools and Equipment Committee reported that it had received 20 applications for assistance. Of these 18 had been granted, one held over and one refused. 'The report was adopted. It was reported that 59 applications had been received for employment. During the week 57 men had been placed in positions and there were still 45 men wanting work. The report was adopted.

The Education and Vocational Training Committee reported that it had received 17. applications, of which All had been approved, except one. The report was adopted, with the proviso that the committee should reconsider the application it had refused. A list of subsidised workers employed by various firms in Christchureh was presented to the board. The number of workers employed in the various trades and professions was as follows: — Bootmaking 15, leather bag-making 11, basket-making 2, cabinetmaking 11, carpentry 10, wool-machining 1, law 1, freneh polishing 3, electrical.engineering 17, metal working 7, motor-engineer-ing 4, piano repairing 1, glass bevelling 1, plumbing 2, rubber working 3, carriage building 3, clerical 1, wool-classing 1, soft goods trade 3, painting 4, optician 1, upholstering 1, chemist 1, chairmaking 2, printing 1. The wages paid ranged from 20/- per wcekHo 52/6 per week.
