WHICH DAY? A GROCER’S DILEMMA. The visit of Admiral Jellicoe, and the advent of the snowstorm early in the week, together with the fact that the city seems to be alive at times with school children enjoying holidays, seem to have “upset the applecart” for some people. On a midday tramcar a leading grocer said: “I’m running my head against the idea that to-day’s Friday. I can’t imagine where I got the idea from, but it’s insistent.” “Is the shop like a Friday?” asked his companion, with a delightful disregard of all the rules of composition. “Yes, by Jove, it is That’s what’s the matter, I suppose.” The speaker was Mr W. Tuck, of Tuck’s, Limited, the busy grocers in Colombo Street North, between Armagh and Gloucester Streets. Every day is like a Friday there now. The business is growing fast. Four new men and a junior assistant have been added to the staff since the business was made a limited liability concern. The premises are being considerably enlarged, but the trade has overtaken the contractor. The development of the business would appear to be mbre rapid than the progress of the building. It’s the real service here that counts—courtesy, promptness and every attention that will secure the customers’ satisfaction, that they may become permanent patrons. The new motor delivery wagon is one of the most attractive vehicles in Christchurch. The new and enlarged, shop will be in keeping. Prices are kept on the lowest possible basis, values on the highest. So the shop will ever resemble a busy Friday. ‘.ll
